What is a Mentor?

The role of a mentor with our New Directions programme is to motivate, guide and assist young people in Medway at risk of offending or anti-social behaviour towards the achievement of positive goals.

This can involve:

  • introducing a young person to positive activities in the community;
  • helping a young person improve attendance or behaviour at school;
  • assisting a young person with reading or homework; or
  • helping a young person build better relationships at home.

Quite often, it involves all of these.

Our mentors meet with the young people on a weekly basis, usually for 1 - 2 hours, over a period of 10-12 weeks.
