The YLF Team
Our team of 11 paid staff and over 100 volunteers brings together a broad range of backgrounds, experience and expertise to our work with young people in need. Fulfilling various roles, we all have one common purpose - to do the best we can for as many young people we can.
The team is led by the CEO and the Director of Operations, who have responsibility for managing the charity and its activities:
Adrian Speller, CEO
Adrian is the charity’s founding CEO, having led the transfer of services from Church in Society in 2007. As Director of Priority People Programmes at Church in Society (and the antecedent Council for Social Responsibility), Adrian had overseen the establishment and development of all the services that were transferred. He was also involved in the development of foyer provision for young people in Kent and Medway, and chaired the Board of a supported housing provider for 12 years. During the past four years, he has been instrumental in developing Children in Care Councils in both Kent and Medway and was a member of the working party that drafted Kent’s Pledge to its looked-after children and care leavers. Adrian has more than 30 years’ senior management experience within the voluntary and community sector and is a member of ACEVO (the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations).
Stephen Gray, Director of Operations
Stephen is one of the charity’s co-founders. He was Operations Manager for the Young People in Need Division of Church in Society/Council for Social Responsibility prior to the transfer, joining the division as an advocate for Kent looked-after young people in 2001. Having gained a post-graduate Diploma in Management Studies in 2003, he took on management responsibility for the independent visitors services in Kent and Medway and later helped found the South East Regional Independent Visitors Service Network. In 2010/11, he led the charity’s successful applications for the Investing in Volunteers standard and Approved Provider Status for our mentoring and befriending services. Currently, Stephen has lead responsibility for the charity’s work in Medway and sits on Medway Children’s Services Looked-After Children Operational Group. He is a graduate of Kingston University where he gained a BSc Hons in Psychology and Sociology and took a particular interest in social care and child protection.
